The Reinhardswald is situated between Kassel and Göttingen in the centre of Germany. In literature it is presented as the most natural of all German forests.
The fantastic landscape for holidays with lots of animals is framed by the rivers Weser and Diemel. You will feel well in this area with a pleasant climate of the low mountain range: with health cures, with gastronomy in neat houses. Many interesting holiday and leisure activities are waiting for their guests.

In the heart of the imposing Reinhardswald the Sababurg, the castle of the Sleeping Beauty in the Wood, is situated. It is the castle of  the fairy tales by the Brothers Grimm, which is situated in the centre of the German Fairy Tales and Legends Tour (Deutsche Märchenstraße).
It goes from the river Main to the North Sea. At the foot of the castle hill you find the Sababurg Zoo, founded in 1571, 130 hectares large. It is the oldest zoological park in Europe. The main emphasis of this park concentrates on the conservation of native animals such as the lynx, the wolf, the bison and the wild horse.
Right next to the park there is the natural reservation “Urwald ( primeval forest) Sababurg”, one of the oldest Hessian natural reservations, where you find oaks aged nearly 1000 years, and fern plants which are several metres high. Being a relic of a forest of pasture ( Hutewald).

This primeval forest is now one of the most photographed forests in Germany.
At the western edge of the Reinhardswald, about 20 km north of Kassel, our town Hofgeismar with its beautiful half-timbered houses is situated. The medieval centre, the historical fragments of a middle-aged winged altar in the Altstädter Kirche ( church of the old city), the pharmacy museum as well as the park of the former spa with the little castle Schönburg built in a baroque style invite you to stay and relax.
Our all the year round swimming pool at the park, excellent sports facilities offer various possibilities for physical activities.

See you ..... in Märchenland Reinhardswald.
